This early beta is still named Sprech. It is signed with an Apple development certificate but is not yet notarized. If you trust this beta, try opening Sprech first, then check its entry in System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose “Open Anyway” if appropriate. Installation may be restricted on managed Macs. Apple’s explanation ↗
No. Groktator is an independent Mac app by aifuera UG (haftungsbeschränkt), built using the xAI API. The name is a playful tribute. Groktator is not affiliated with, partnered with or endorsed by xAI.
With your own API key, the app sends audio directly to xAI for cloud transcription. Your latest recording stays in local memory so you can retry or export it as a WAV file. It is discarded when you quit. There is no automatic dictation history. More about privacy ↗
Yes. The global shortcut starts and stops recording while you’re in other apps. Once finished, your text is copied. Optionally, the app pastes it into the previously active text field using ⌘V. This requires macOS Accessibility permission; some apps or protected fields may restrict pasting.
Right or left Command, right or left Option, right Control, ⌘⇧Space or ⌃⌥Space. Changes take effect immediately and are saved between launches.
The beta currently runs on macOS 14 or later. An iPhone version is not available yet.
